Now change the following sentences into indirect speech.

(1) He said, " I am not well".

(2) she said, "I am going to market".

(3) Shashi said, " I know her address".

(4) Ramesh said, " My mother is in the kitchen".

(7) The teacher asked Ramesh, "What are you doing?"

(8) Ramcharan Said, "Stop fighting, Raghu and Rammu."

(B) Read the following sentences.

He said, "Where was the king?"

Now read it's reported form :

He asked where the king was.

Observe the change that occur.

(a)"Said" is replaced by "asked".

(b) The inverted commas have been removed.

(c) The question within the inverted commas has been changed into an assertive sentence.

(d) The "question mark" is replaced by " full stop".

(a) Now change the following sentences to their reported forms.

Ans. I asked him what he did that Sunday.


(2) He Said, " When did you join the school?"

Ans. He asked me when I joined the school.

Ans. Geeta asked me where I live before coming there.


(4) They said, " Why did the principal call you?"

Ans. They asked why the principal called me.


(5) Mother said, " Where did your father go yesterday?"

Ans. Mother asked me where my father went previous day.


(b) Now change these from indirect speech to direct speech.

Ans. The master said, "Why is he sleeping?"

Ans. I said, " When did Rajesh join school?"


(3) They asked how angry the principal was.

Ans. They said, "How is the principal angry?


(4) He asked why I was so much worried.

Ans. He Said, "Why are you so much worried?"


(5) She asked what the problem was.

Ans. She said, "What is the problem?.


(c )  Write the second and the third forms of verbs given below :

Ans. The elephant counted  the spots of the leopard.


(3) Up to what number did the elephant count correctly ?

Ans. The elephant counted up to nineteen correctly.


(4) What did the elephant forget ? 

Ans. The elephant forgot the word "twenty".

Ans. The old bear said to the elephant that he must learn to count the numbers again.


Let's  Write

Write about an incident when you had to work hard and in the end you felt happy.

Ans. Once my father fell ill. I was alone in the house. Next day was my board exam.

For English. I was confused. Suddenly some guest also came. I had to see them and also to my father. I did all my household work myself. I also called a doctor. I couldn't read a word. The guests went away at 8 p.m. Then I started reading. I read whole night. In the morning. I was confused. However my father was Okay. I went to give my exam. My paper was very well . I was happy. I realized that hard work never goes in vain.

Go to a garden and meet the keeper of the place. Collect names of the plants, trees and flowers.
